An Abbotsford singer has been named among seven winners of the Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Program supported by RBC.
Ben Cottrill is among the performers from across Canada who were selected from among 300 submissions. He was among five finalists named along with one grand prize winner and one second-place winner.
All seven will perform at the Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival Emerging Artists Showcase on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Toronto.
All winners are also invited to participate in a private music industry career development information session, facilitated by Universal Music Canada.
Aspiring musicians were asked to submit a 60-second audio or video musical performance for a chance to win the grand prize of $25,000 cash, recording time and more.
The winners were selected by a panel of judges, including members of Canada’s Walk of Fame senior management team and board of directors, as well as prominent music industry executives and artists.
Cottrill, who plays multiple instruments, recently released his debut EP Red Lines. He describes it as showing a “blend of serious and light-hearted songwriting that captures the wide variety of emotions that life entails.”
