An Abbotsford teen who landed a successful deal on the hit CBC TV show Dragons’ Den in 2017 has released his second book.
Shervin Azar’s new book is titled Beast Mode: How to be an Alpha Teen.
Azar, 16, says he hopes the self-published paperback will inspire teens on how to “stand up and take control of their future at the early stage and help them to beat their social anxiety and existential suffering.”
“What is beast mode? A habit which leads me to everyday success, and I believe that it will also lead you to success in your everyday life,” he says in the book.
Beast Mode includes chapter titles such as “Why you worrying, bucko?” and “No batteries for your Xbox controller? Too bad!”
Azar came to Canada from Iran at the age of eight and dreamed of becoming an author, despite having no grasp of English.
But he learned to speak fluent English and released his first book, Dare to Dream, in 2016 at the age of 12.
He spent a year writing that book, which encouraged other pre-teens to set their own goals and never give up on them.
Azar said he was motivated to write Dare to Dream because of what he described as a lack of positive books for pre-teens compared to adult self-help books.
Beast Mode is a continuation of his first book, and he has plans to write more.
After the release of Dare to Dream, Azar auditioned for and was accepted to appear on Dragons’ Den.
On his appearance, he asked the show’s six business moguls, known as the “Dragons,” for $2,998 – there was a $2 discount, he said – for a 25 per cent share of his company.
“Through hard work and dedication, I made my dream of writing a book come to life,” he told the panel.
He told the dragons that his goal is to become a New York Times bestselling author. Azar ended up making a deal with all six of them.
Azar said he is looking forward to having others read his new book.
“I’m looking to spread out my message towards readers and more audiences, encouraging more kids and teens to believe in their own abilities to make a bright and constructive future,” he said.
Beast Mode is available for purchase on Amazon.
