Mixed media artist Chris Doman has an obsession with Argyle Street. He brings this personal love affair into the public eye with ‘Argyle Street Needs Painting’, an exhibit at Islands Gallery.
Doman will be on hand at the gallery—appropriately located at 5060 Argyle Street—this Thursday, July 26 from 6:30–10 p.m. to meet with the public.
Doman calls his artwork ‘multiples’; he uses three or four different methods, from printmaking to stencilling and collage, to depict his feelings and thoughts about Argyle Street. Each painting has been done on handmade paper imported from Montreal, and hung unframed on steel cables.
The concept for the show began with one painting in 2009. “Seeing them all together was neat for me because I had them all in a drawer,” he said.
