Fellas, move over, because Little Island Productions is showcasing an all-female lineup for this Friday’s Hip-Hop, Funk and Crunk Night at The Mex.
Starting the night are DJs Lilith and Miss Christina plus vocal performances by Dallas and live hip-hop with Down Low Dannie Lee, Monta-B and Skulastic.
Headlining is vocalist/MC/DJ/producer and songwriter Erica Dee, returning to Courtenay after relocating to L.A. and touring extensively across North America.
Dee will showcase songs off her highly anticipated mixtape Golden. Think of Golden as the perfect dessert. A honey voice laced over stick-to-your-ribs beats. Peachy summer-day melodies. Lemon tart lyrics that make you pucker from their honesty.
From old-school hip-hop to soul to Motown to disco, Dee throws down some classic beats like Juicy by Biggie, Check the Rhyme by Tribe Called Quest, and On and On by Erykah Badu.
Raised by musicians in Nelson, Dee has always had the inspiration of her parents pushing her along her path. In 2002 at the age of only 16, she began her career as a solo MC, singing and rhyming over everything from beat boxing to reggae to hip-hop to house.
Since then, she’s performed throughout North America, Panama and Costa Rica at clubs, parties and music festivals like Shambhala, Sisterhood, Fandango, Komasket and Lasqueti Escape. She’s also shared the stage with Lyrics Born of Blackaliscious, Stanton Warriors, Warrior Queen, DJ Nu Mark, Small Town DJs, Mat the Alien, Scream, Lighta Crew and many more.
The show begins at 9 p.m.
