Disco funk rock band Alpine Conspiracy’s lead singer Josh Murray had just completed his debut at Slocan’s Unity Festival last weekend when a female fan approached him.
“She said she loved my energy, and then she said I’m the most wholesome frontman she’s ever seen,” he laughed. “I’m a high energy performer to go along with this high energy music, but don’t be afraid to bring your kids to the show.”
The band’s music is a collaborative effort, the members brought together by guitarist Andy Parks, but it’s Murray who wrote the lyrics.
And if he could sum up his musical approach in one word it would be “positivity.”
“One of my favourite songs is called ‘The Ride’ and the chorus is about enjoying the ride. I was partially inspired by a quote I read from comedian Bill Hicks. As humans we all experience ups and downs, but if you look at it from the perspective of it being a ride, that makes the lows more palatable.”
But there won’t be many low moments during their next performance at The Royal on Tuesday, which promises to be raucous.
“We’re going to do it up, super high energy,” said bass player Steve Cleary. “The other band (KC Roberts and the Live Revolution) is awesome.They’re an eight-piece funk band out of Toronto with a horn section, so we’re going to be on our game.”
The band, comprised of members who have worked together on a number of projects, also includes drummer Lee Campese and keyboardist Rahj Levinson. They are nearing completion of their first album.
Tickets to the 8 p.m. concert are $20 at the door.
