The infamous Dr. Sketchy brings its special brand of life drawing to Nanaimo in June.
The Clubhouse Dance and Fitness on Wingrove Street is the venue for the alternative life drawing class, which features a burlesque flair this month.
Posing for the event this month is burlesque performer Donatella Soul.
Dr. Sketchy is an alternative art school which provides an opportunity to study life drawing with a twist – instead of nude models posed for hours, Dr. Sketchy hosts circus performers, burlesque dancers and anyone else organizers find interesting and fun in all their costumed glory to sketch, draw and paint as participants see fit.
The franchise was founded in New York in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple with the goal of removing pretention from the art school. The first event in Nanaimo was held earlier this year.
All experience levels are welcome, from acclaimed artists to hobbyists to doodlers. Artists must bring their own materials, including pencils, paper, paint and canvas.
The event takes place June 25, from 6-9 p.m., at the Clubhouse, just off Departure Bay Road at 1420 Wingrove St.
The Clubhouse is a dance and fitness business offering classes like hooping and pole dancing.
Admission to the life drawing event is $8/advance; $10/door. Refreshments, snacks and music will be available all evening.
