An art auction complete with live music, food and drinks will raise money for the Parksville and District Association for Community Living (PDACL) this Saturday, October 19.
The event is being held at the McMillan Arts Centre (the MAC), which has been recently renovated both inside and out.
The event is being co-sponsored by the Oceanside Community Arts Council, and will feature upbeat local groups Jugmentals Jugband and Celtic Chaos. There will also be a live and silent auction of donated artwork, as well as food, a bar and various raffles.
The purpose of the Art Auction is to raise funds for a workshop on October 23 for self-advocates, parents and caregivers on Building Personal Support Networks.
The workshop is being offered in partnership with the Nanaimo Association for Community Living, with the support of the United Way.
The Art Auction is one of many events celebrating Community Living Month. Parksville Mayor Chris Burger has proclaimed October Community Living month in Parksville
To close Community Living Month, the participants of the programs, and local self-advocates, will be celebrating at a Halloween Dance on October 30.
Originally co-sponsored by the Parksville Legion, the dance has been moved to Nanoose Place because of the recent flooding that closed the Parksville Legion.
The Nanoose Lions are providing the hall at no charge and the admission charge for the dance will be a donation of a non- perishable food item for the Nanoose Food Bank.
Community Living Month is a province-wide celebration and this year the theme is Relationships – the Heart of Inclusion.
More information about community living and the provincial organization is available at www.inclusionbc.org or www.pdacl.ca.
The Art Auction runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on October 19 and tickets are $5, to get one call 250-248-2933 or 250-248-8849.
