Art auctioned for North Saanich middle school playground

Alexander’s Coffee in Sidney hosted its annual HeArts auction to raise funds for playground equipment at North Saanich middle school.

Alexander’s Coffee is out $333 and couldn’t be happier about it.

The Sidney company hosted its annual HeArts auction to raise funds for a local cause, this year playground equipment at North Saanich middle school. The coffee business opted to top up the fundraising to reach the $3,000 goal.

“I think overall it was a very successful fundraiser,” said Alexander’s owner Sandy Shams. “We had a lot of fun doing it and my staff and I are grateful for the overall generosity of the public who participated.”

The art auction of works created by local artists raised $2,445.

“Many of the pieces that were up for auction went far below their potential value but every piece had a bid, and every one of them went to a good home,” Shams said.

A countertop donation box raised $222.

“For North Saanich middle school there is still a stretch to go for the necessary funds for the playground,” Shams added. “Every donation no matter how big or small is welcome.” Donations can be made to School District 63 NSMS Playground Trust.
