The Quesnel Art Gallery’s annual February show, Art from the Heart, features the theme heART Attack this year.

The tradition of celebration Art from the Heart began more than 15 years ago and allows the general public access to display in the gallery, gallery committee member Sybil Muschik said.

“This is an open show with some stipulations,” she added.

This year’s show had a wide variety of subjects and media for the observer to enjoy and Muschik said it’s also an opportunity for established artists and regular local contributors to experiment with media they might not be all that familiar with.

“This allows the artist to truly see art as an experiment and a joyful expression,” Muschik said.

There are 16 artists with 36 works displayed. These works include felted work, oil and watercolour paintings and even a small installation piece.

“The Art from the Heart show is popular with both artists and the community at large,” Muschik said.

“Right from the first we’ve had very good response.”

This is the first show under the new gallery committee and initially they are rotating the leadership responsibilities. Muschik is the first to sit in the chairperson capacity.

“We also have established several sub-committees to handle the various aspects of gallery and gift shop management,” she said.

For the previous 20 years, the gallery and gift shop organization was handled by Pat Wahlstrom who recently retired.

The 2013 roster of shows in the gallery are fully booked and Muschik said she’s enjoyed helping hang this first show of the year.

“It was a pleasure hanging this show with such diverse submissions and with lots of help, it was great fun.”

The Quesnel Art Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Quesnel and District Arts and Recreation Centre on Northstar Road.
