Art gallery launches new show

Exhibition will feature the paintings of two local artists

A new exhibition at Hope Arts Gallery will feature the work of local artists and friends Jenny Wolpert and Shirley Wotherspoon.

Each year the duo presents a show of entirely new material in a range of paint mediums, everything from encaustic wax and watercolour to acrylics and oil on foundations that vary from canvas to polypropylene paper. They also work with jewellery, pine baskets, photography, collage and art quilts.

Ordinary Miracles is their eleventh show for the back room at the gallery. It celebrates how both artists appreciate the wonder and complexity of the natural and imaginative -world.

The exhibit runs Sept. 1-28, with an opening artists reception planned on Sept. 3 from 7-9 p.m. Mayor Laurie French will be showing watercolours created by his mother Catherine Baldwin French Hamilton for the first time.

While Ordinary Miracles is the featured exhibition at the art gallery in September, another show is also taking place.

The long hallway will display 24 submissions from the playing card art challenge this summer. Each participating artist was assigned a playing card to use a starting point for creative works.
