Art lessons beginning

New Year’s question 1: What popular activity can you enjoy both indoors and outdoors, build vast amounts of new neural connections in the brain with, do in groups or alone by the young or the very old, and have it result in a deeper appreciation of beauty?

If you said sex, you lose — because it’s art, of course.

And to add to the list, art teaches you new ways to see, to be in the moment, and to listen to intuition. Art can be taught to those who feel they have no “talent,” and in spite of the benefits of hard work and practice, it’s almost always fun.

New Year’s question 2: Where can a beginner or experienced painter sign up for a series of classes where they can expect individual instruction in the medium of their choice and learn at their own pace?

The answer here is closer than you might think.

Local artist Sandra Lamb is once again hosting her Art a la Mode in the Wave Room of the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre on Monday afternoons starting Jan. 10.

She keeps the class size small, so everyone gets adequate attention and can express individual style. Lessons are structured or loose, depending on the student, and everyone benefits from the group ambience.

Lamb has been teaching art in Campbell River and the Comox Valley for more than 10 years, and is looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces in these two five-week sessions.
