It could be said that without art Nanaimo’s John Shaw wouldn’t be able to breathe.
“It is very true,” Shaw said.
On Aug. 7, the mixed media artist will be showing off some of his work when he hosts the Mixed Canvas Art Show at Blue Poppy Garden Gallery.
The show will contain more than 20 of Shaw’s mixed media pieces, which he says are often acrylic.
“[They are] generally acrylic, paper tissue, bits of metal,” he said.
Shaw has held three previous shows before, at the Nanaimo Seniors Village.
“They would always have some sort of open house and they would use my work as part of the draw,” he said.
Shaw, who has been an artist for years, is inspired by nature, culture and global symbolism.
He says emotions and feelings are what drives him to create art.
“I think it has always been the expression part for me,” he said. “It is about my feelings.”
The Mixed Canvas Art Show begins at 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 at 208 Wallace St.
