Play examines teenage murder

How could a teen girl suddenly murder her normal, loving family? A local theatre company will try answer that question with their upcoming play, Castle in the Sky.

Based on the 2006 tragedy in Medicine Hat, Alta. where a 12-year-old girl and her boyfriend stabbed her mother, father and young brother, the production attempts to recreate the scene.

Castle in the Sky will be performed at Intrepid Theatre’s YOU Show on Sunday, March 19, 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. Reserve by calling 250-858-6870.

 

Stirling and Smiths vespers

The Church of the Advent continues its tradition of free jazz offerings this Sunday with the trio Stirling and Smiths.

Led by jazz pianist and vocalist, Jan Stirling, with bandmates Dick Smith on alto sax and Joey Smith on bass, the trio promises an evening of great music for its faithful Jazz Vespers audience. Show starts March 20 at 7 p.m., Church of the Advent, 510 Mount View, Colwood.

 

UVic choir explores Haydn

The sweet strains of the University of Victoria Chorus and Orchestra will ring at the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium on April 2.

Conductor Ajtony Csaba, chorus director Susan Young and student and faculty soloists will perform Haydn’s The Seasons.

The show starts at 8 p.m. at 3800 Finnerty Rd.

Tickets are $17.50, $13.50 for seniors and alumni or $5 for UVic students at the door or free with advance registration.
