Arts around Alberni: from Classic Tub to getting to the nub

This, that and the other from here, there and everywhere in Alberni's arts and entertainment scene.

Rollin still wants book

Please help the Rollin Art Centre by dropping off all your gently used books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles for their annual book sale, which takes place on May 12 at Echo Centre.

This is one of the Community Art Council’s biggest fundraisers.

The art centre is not accepting National Geographic magazines, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest or textbooks.

Books can be dropped at the Rollin Art Centre, 3061 Eighth Ave., inside, under the staircase in the large wooden box. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Or call 250-724-3412 for more info.

Port Alberni in 1912

Join Patrick Dunae for his talk on Port Alberni in 1912 on Wednesday, April 11 in the Dogwood Room at Echo Centre. The program starts at 7 p.m.

This is the second presentation in the Spring Speakers Series presented by the Alberni District Historical Society.

Dunae is a retired professor whose continuing area of research is the history of Vancouver Island and the information to be gleaned from census records about people living here in the early days of settlement.

You won’t want to miss this free public event, helping celebrate the Cities Centennial year.

Rollin shows joint exhibit

The Rollin Art centre’s next exhibit will be a joint show with artists Adina Barugolo and Peter Leclerc.

This exhibit will showcase styles of mixed mediums.

Join us in the gallery on Saturday, April 14 from 1–3 p.m. to meet the artists. Their exhibit runs April 13 to May 9.

Call for artists at the Rollin

Don’t miss this opportunity to have your own art exhibit. The Rollin Art Centre is accepting applications now.

All visual artists have the chance to submit an application to exhibit their work in our fine arts gallery during the 2013 calendar year.

Application forms are available at the Rollin Art Centre or you can download one at www.portalberniarts.com.  Deadline is April 30. Please call 250-724-3412 for more info.

Classic Tub plays Char’s

Classic Tub will be coming to Char’s Landing on Sunday, April 15 at 7 p.m.

This tongue-in-cheek name for a group of friends has focused much of their music around a washtub bass. They have been playing together for 20 years and included in their repertoire is Celtic, folk, blues and a bit of do-wop music.

This concert stems from the desire to make a contribution to Ty Watson House and a portion of the evening will go to this society. Doors open at 6 p.m.; admission is by donation.

Mount Klitsa plant sale

Saturday May 12th will be the 13th annual community plant sale at the Rollin Art Centre.

What better way to spend your Saturday morning then by choosing your favourite annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and more?

Come join the Mount Klista Garden Club from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and start your summer gardening.

Please, no earlies.

Make your own banner

Children, adults and schools can partake in this great community event. Once again the Arrowsmith Rotary Club will be sponsoring the banner program. There is a $10 registration fee to cover the cost of supplies.

Forms can be picked up at the Rollin Art Centre during operating hours.
