This year’s gigantic book sale is finally here! Come to Echo Centre this Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Echo Community Centre.
This is one of the largest fundraisers for the Community Arts Council. This year marks one of the largest selections of books we have ever seen, so you don’t want to miss out.
Art in Schools show returns
The Rollin Art Centre is excited to present an entire art show dedicated to local elementary school children. This exhibit begins May 13 and runs until June 7, and features four local elementary schools and the children who took part in Art in the Schools.
Come out and meet these talented children at their artists’ reception, Saturday, May 24 from 1–3 p.m. Join us for refreshments and wander the gallery that will showcase their work.
Register now for banners
It’s time to register for the annual art banner program, sponsored by the Arrowsmith Rotary Club. Children, adults and school groups can partake in this community event.
There is a $10 registration fee, to cover the cost of supplies. Forms can be picked up at the Rollin Art Centre Tuesday – Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Deadline is May 17.
The painting event is planned for May 22–25 at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
Learn how to lead workshop
Are you interested in learning how to teach others how to make lanterns? This workshop is for you.
Learn the history of lantern festivals and light creations Join instructor Erin Ryding for two evenings of lanterns, light sculptures and the materials used.
Learn how to build at least two different lantern styles, the dos and don’ts of teaching others how to build and how to organize a workshop. This is a workshop that concludes with a certificate to teach lantern making classes.
Call Echo Centre at 250-723-2181 to register. Classes are Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29 from 6-9 p.m. at Echo Centre. Cost is $15.
Learn about lantern making
Would you prefer just to make a lantern?
This workshop concentrates on the ideas and helpful hints to get you started on creating your own lantern masterpieces.
Classes will be held at Echo Centre to learn how to make bamboo and tissue paper designs. Create whatever you can imagine.
After making your own lanterns creations, you will have the opportunity to participate in the Rollin Art Centre’s Celebration of Lights festival, Saturday Nov. 29.
Workshops start Wednesday, July 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6 from 6–9 p.m. at Echo Centre. Cost is $10 to register and $10 for supplies.
