Arts Around: Magical new exhibit at Rolling Arts Centre

What's happening in the Alberni arts scene this week.

“A Glimpse into the Magical Odyssey of Oil Painting” is the title of our current art exhibit at the Rollin Art Centre’s Gallery, featuring local artist Vi McConnell.

This art exhibit showcases McConnell’s original oil paintings. Her show runs until Sept. 13. Meet Vi at her artist reception Saturday, Aug. 9 from 1–3 p.m. Join her and Rollin Art Centre staff in the gallery for refreshments and art.

Kid camps end in two weeks

Children ages 5-9, the Rollin Art Centre’s summer art camps have only 2 weeks left. Camps run every Tues., Wed., and Fri. These summer art programs promise a creative outlet children need and enjoy. Each week focuses on a different art medium.

Two camps are left: Sculpture and Comic Books.

Our wonderful summer student, Tess, has planned fun activities that intergrade art with learning. At each camp the children will fabricate stimulating artwork and foster friendships with peers. The cost is only $25 per week.

Terrace teas continue

ADSS grad student Arlene Oldale will be the next musical entertainer for our summer Teas on the Terrace on Aug. 14.

Tickets are on sale at the Rollin Art Centre; seating is limited. Tickets are $10 each. Times: 1-3 p.m.

WHO’S NEXT

AUG. 21 – The Travellers.

Melissa Martin is the Arts Administrator for the Community Arts Council.
