Arts around: Meet mosaic artist at Rollin

A smattering of this, that and the other in Port Alberni's arts and entertainment scene.

Our current art exhibit at the Rollin Art centre is something different.  Bill Townsend, a local wood carver and artist, is having a very unique exhibit showcasing his love of wood.

This type of wood work is called, Intarsia.

The name Intarsia literally means, “A mosaic in wood”. It is also referred to as “painting in wood”.

This is an exhibit for everyone who loves the look and feel of wood, something different, something unique.

Bill’s artist’s reception will be this Saturday, Feb. 15 from 1-3 p.m. in the Rollin gallery. Join us in our gallery for an afternoon of refreshments and creativity.

His exhibit runs until March 7.

Writers launch new book

A group of four local authors, who have written the book, Desperate Writers of Port Alberni, Write Again! will officially launch the book with a signing and reception on Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Gallery at the Rollin Art Centre from 1-3 p.m. Come join us!

What are we bid for art?

The Rollin Art Centre will be having an art auction every month in the gallery. Sealed bids will be taken with the successful bidder taking home a beautiful piece of donated art from local artists.

New pieces will be displayed each month so drop by the Rollin Art Centre Gallery today and place your bid. All proceeds will go toward the Rollin Art Centre and future events.
