The Well rises

for weekend show

Downtown cafe/bookshop The Well, 821 Fort St., is hosting an open house and celebration Saturday (Feb. 12) and Sunday in conjunction with the Victoria College of Art.

“Victoria boasts more creative people per square foot than anywhere in North America,” college president Peter Such said in a release. “It’s about time the capital city had a venue like the Well to focus this energy and lead us into the new economy for Victoria – Arts City.”

The college plans to establish a downtown annex next door at 819 Fort St. to house extra gallery and teaching space. On Feb. 24, VCA launches its new writing school, beginning with poetry taught by Linda Rogers, Victoria’s Poet Laureate.

The open house activities start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, reception, puppet show and live music.

Sunday features an author breakfast brunch at 11:30 a.m., with a book fair and visual art showcase of local authors and artists. A Valentine’s Day open poetry contest – Kiss and Tell at The Well – starts at 1 p.m.
