The arts initiative launched Thursday (June 14) with a bus tour featuring Public Art Committee members, artists and community leaders.

ArtsAlive is Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture’s annual public sculpture program, where pieces on display throughout the municipality for about a year, on loan by the artists. Each artist is sponsored by a local business or community group.
Twelve new installations, selected by the Public Art Committee are on display until early April 2019. The sculpture with the most votes from the public is honoured with the People’s Choice Award, and will be considered for possible purchase (for fair market value, to a maximum of $18,000) by the municipality.
Deposit your ballot in any ArtsAlive ballot box located on Oak Bay Avenue, Estevan Village, Willows Beach, or at Oak Bay Recreation Centre. Votes can also be cast using the QR codes on the side of the ballot box or on the plaques next to each sculpture. Voting ends Oct. 12.
Painted pianos are coming
Six pianos painted by local artists return this summer for the public to play and enjoy. Pianos painted by artists Gillian Redwood, Robert Amos, Jennifer McIntyre, Christine Gollner, Sherry Tompalski, and Senior Art Students at St. Michaels University School are set to be in place by June 29 at Loon Bay Park, Estevan Village, McNeill Bay, Turkey Head Walkway, Willows Beach, and Oak Bay Village (during Arts and Culture Fortnight, August 9-23). Pianos can be played during the day and covered at night. Pianos are in place July 1 to Sept. 1.
