Award-winning Aussie Ash Grunwald is set to bring his Hot Mama Vibes to Golden on February 9 at the Rockwater Grill and Bar.

Ash is four-time ARIA-nominated Australian artist who mixes blues, electronica, hip hop, rock and soul.  (The ARIA is Australia’s Junos).

He debuted the Hot Mama Vibes last winter with a tour of B.C. and Alberta’s big ski and boarding towns.

The album is a collaboration between leading members of Australia’s hip-hip community, which includes Countbounce from the Australian Music Prize-nominated ensemble TZU.

The sound is built on Ash’s swampy blend of blues, electronica, hip hop, rock and soul. It also references 70s rock and updated elements like junk percussion, distorted vocals and Euro-sounding keys.

In 2003, Ash was named Blues Performer of the Year by the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society, earning him the opportunity to compete in the 2004 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

He has opened in the past for such legends as James Brown and Bo Diddly and has toured with Jack Johnston.

His 2007 release, Give Signs, won the Best Independent Blues and Roots Album Prize from the Australian Independent Record Label’s Association.

Most recently, Ash’s song “Walking” was chosen for the soundtrack to the movie Limitless, featuring Robert De Niro. “Breakout” was also featured in a promo for the film Moneyball.

Ash is also a die-hard snowboarder who sneaks over to Canada during our winter sometimes so he can play some gigs in mountain towns and go boarding.

That’s why we get to see him in smaller venues and smaller towns like Golden.
