Sorrento author Ann Chidwick will be signing copies of her new book, Voices of Settlers – Blind Bay, at a book launch Saturday June 21 at Bookingham Palace in the Mall at Piccadilly.

Chidwick, who has compiled a 100-year history of the community will be signing her books from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“These stories are the history of the homesteaders who came to a heavily forested area of Blind Bay to settle,” Chidwick says. “They first had to clear the land, build a home and plant fruit trees.”

She says settlers quickly realized they needed a school. It was built by the community on Saturdays in 1913 and opened Jan. 4, 1914.

“Likewise there was need for a post office, which received its first cancelling stamp in October 1914.”

Chidwick will also have her companion book, Voices of Settlers – Sorrento available for signing and purchase. Both books have an insert map of 1912 with a 2012 map overlay.
