You can listen to Bach and you can listen to Brubeck, but it’s not every day that you can hear a program featuring both. From Bach to Brubeck will not only include these two composers, but just about everything in between.
The talented Bergman Duo is back at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre for their third performance in the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society’s 2016/17 Classical Music Series, this time with the help of percussionist Rod Thomas Squance.
This isn’t the first time the partnership has performed together. In fact, they’ve worked on a variety of projects together and even have created their own arrangements. From Bach to Brubeck will feature a Bach cello suite for piano and the marimba, along with a few jazz and popular tunes, and even some of their own compositions.
The Bergmann Duo, made up of married couple Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann, has performed all across Europe and North America and have become award-winning performers.
Solo and freelance percussionist Rod Thomas Squance will be joining the duo. Squance studied at the University of Miami where he earned his doctoral degree in classical percussion, but his repertoire expands a variety of genres including orchestral, jazz, and world music. Squance has shared the stage with an impressive list of musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project, and he’s also performed on national radio and television stations including CBC Radio. Squance currently works at the University of Calgary, teaching ethnomusicology and percussion.
Join the Bergmann Duo and Rod Thomas Squance for From Back to Brubeck at the Cultural Centre on Feb. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Tickets: $27/adults, $24/seniors, and $22/youth, and are available at the Centre Box Office, by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469), or online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca.
