Argentine-born Pancho Rio is a guitarist and singer who excels in the wonderful folk rhythms of French gypsies, Spanish flamenco and sizzling rumba.
He and his Canadian partner — in life as well as in music — Sal Samaya met in Peru in 1984, and the talented duo is now based in Vancouver and touring as the Rio Samaya Band. Sal backs Pancho with smoky vocals, accordion, cha-chas, bombo and guitar.
They have played in China, India, Central America, Turkey, France, Cambodia, Australia and across Canada — on TV, at arts and folk festivals, in schools, parks and community centres.
Rio Samaya will make their Enderby debut at the River Rocks Bistro (near the bridge) on Tuesday. The show begins at 8 p.m., with a cover charge of $10. The bistro will serve its full menu of comfort food before the musicians transform the scene into a musical caravan full of treasures. Reservations are advisable: call 250-838-0005.
