It’ll be a night of rock and care for a seven-year-old Vernon boy undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer.
Vernon’s Hog Wild Band is hosting the Caring for Cory benefit and fundraiser for Grade 3 Beairsto elementary school student Cory Maksymchuk, Sunday starting at 5 p.m. at The Green in the Village Green Hotel.
Maksymchuk was diagnosed in March with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma which affects the immune cells. It also causes the fastest growing human tumour.
He has since been undergoing extensive chemotherapy at the Vancouver Children’s Hospital.
“Dan Cocks, who is an RCMP member in the Okanagan, approached me to help organize a benefit for Cory,” said John Noseworthy, with the Hog Wild Band. “I have personally known Cory’s dad Terry for the last 20 years and we are glad to help him out.”
Joining The Hog Wild Band will be The Young‘uns and Dirt Road Country, with sound and lights by production company Evolution Audio and Greg Miller.
“We are doing entry by donation at the door for the event and will be having a 50/50 draw as well,” said Noseworthy, adding event organizers are still seeking donations for the silent auction.
The Hog Wild Band, who are also performing at The Green both Friday and Saturday night, will be collecting funds at its weekend shows for the people who cannot make Sunday’s benefit.
“We will have a cow tipping jar for Cory as the band plays,” said Noseworthy.
