Peter “Pete” Seeger was an American folk singer and activist.
A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, he also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of The Weavers.
Kelowna banjo player Felix Possak is about to pay tribute to the long career of the legendary singer-songwriter when he performs at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country.
“A champion of folk music, Seeger always urged audiences to sing along to his hits such as Goodnight Irene, Where Have all the Flowers Gone, If I Had a Hammer, Waist Deep In The Big Muddy and The Bells Of Rhymney, said Possak, who will be performing on an original Vega long neck “Pete Seeger model” five-string banjo.
The presentation also covers songs by the artists who influenced and inspired Seeger such as Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Malvina Reynolds, Elizabeth Cotton, Tom Paxton and others.
Pete Seeger, His Songs and Times takes place at the Creekside Theatre, located in George Elliot Secondary School at 10241 Bottom Wood Lake Rd. Saturday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each or $88 for a group of four or $15 for those under 12. Call 250-766-9309 to reserve.
