Birthplace of B.C. Gallery is celebrating Fort Langley’s lesser known heritage on Saturday, Aug. 10 with ‘Barbados Day.’
The event begins at noon and everyone is invited to enjoy a lunch of jerk chicken barbecue, ham cutters and coconut water and support the Fort Langley Lions as they raise funds for the May Day Parade.
There will be a flag raising ceremony at 1 p.m. with Township of Langley mayor Jack Froese, B.C.’s first governor, James Douglas and a heritage entourage, including Governor Douglas’ mother, Martha Ann, who was born in Barbados.
Barbados Day wraps up at 4 p.m.
This weekend, visitors are invited to stop by the gallery during Fort Langley’s long weekend celebrations and watch as artists give demonstrations in the garden, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4 and Monday, Aug. 5.
