It’s official! The much-anticipated Barriere Bandshell will be officially opened on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, in Fadear Park.

Imagine the soothing sounds of a spring symphony, relax to theatre under the stars, tap your feet to some old time fiddlers or share the excitement of a dance or talent competition. The bandshell stage can be used for a variety of private functions as well, like weddings, reunions, and of course annual celebrations like Canada Day.

Barriere can now open its doors to many great concert events and we hope that the bandshell will be a continuous hot spot of entertaining experiences.

The Bandshell Committee is hard at work preparing the all-day presentation for the grand opening festivities. We have begun to search for the many talented people we know we have in and around Barriere. The showcase of entertainers that will be performing is now being assembled but you still have time to share your ideas or talent. The plan is to have a wide variety of acts covering all age groups. We are looking for local dancers, music groups, and any original acts. The Thompson Valley Players, local band “The Kin”, as well as Karina Pelayo, are among a few of the acts that will be on stage for the opening day.

The Committee is inviting organizations and businesses to set up booths and displays to promote and celebrate community involvement.

We are hoping the day will be a time to bring family and community together to celebrate what Barriere has to offer, and the District of Barriere is looking forward to welcoming various dignitaries and special guests to the event as well.

The first meeting for volunteers who want to be a part of this bandshell Mother’s Day show is on Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m., in the Ridge.  We welcome volunteers in any capacity as well as those who would like to sign up to perform.  The deadline for performer auditions is April 21, so please contact us soon. Anyone wishing more information can contact Colleen Hannigan or Lynn Wright at the District office (250-672-9751) for details.
