Beachfest music wraps up this weekend

Nanaimo’s Chevy Ray & the Fins will play rock n’ roll and local music legend Gerry Barnum will perform soulful roots and folk

It’s the last weekend for Beachfest’s Summer Concert Series in Parksville and the show will end with bang.

Nanaimo’s Chevy Ray & the Fins will play rock n’ roll favourites from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke on Friday Aug. 15. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Local music legend Gerry Barnum is performing the last concert on Aug. 16, a spot previously booked to Zachary Stevenson, who can’t make the show.

Barnum performs originals and soulful roots and folk music and has been playing for over 30 years, and also teaching. After spending more than a decade in Vancouver and touring across Canada, Barnum returned to his hometown of Parksville.

He has recorded five CDs since his return and has played at festivals and events throughout the area. Barnum will be playing with his group called The Variables from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Both shows take place in Parksville’s Community Park in the picnic shelter. The Quality Foods Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition also wraps up this weekend.
