Along with a month of perusing world-class sand sculptures, taking in fire works, a Kite Festival and Kidfest, there will be live music every Friday and Saturday night during Beachfest in Parksville.
It’s called the Parksville Beach Festival Summer Concert Series, part of the Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition (Beachfest).
Music will be performed from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Picnic Shelter in Parksville’s Community Park.
Next Friday, July 19, music kicks off with Blue Gambit, a trio from Lantzville playing blues, rock and soul. Their repertoire is far-ranging, including numbers by BB King, Uncle Kracker, Koko Taylor and Tracey Chapman.
Saturday, July 20, Road Star will perform hot country, rock and blues, both covers and originals. The Victoria group of four sing smooth harmonies and will be bringing a guest vocalist that evening.
Friday, July 26, Kenny Shaw and Brian Temple will deliver music and comedy. Dubbed “two funny old boys who can really sing,” Shaw has received BC Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award for four consecutive years.
Saturday, July 27 Heads Up from Nanaimo will perform pop and motown from the ‘50s to ‘80s. These are classic tunes that will get people dancing to The Beatles, The Temptations, Buddy Holly and more.
Other performers include Terrazetto, playing Latin and European jazz, with samba, tango and world music influences on Aug 2, and Big Daddy from Port Alberni, with country rock August 3.
Big Twang Theory will play folk rock with a country flavour August 9, and August 10 Chevy Ray and the Fins will rock out hits from the ‘50s.
To round out the series the Glen Foster Group will perform August 16, known for intricate finger-picking ballads, country-flavoured pop and electric rock, and catch award-winning Elvis tribute artist Rob Knight August 17.
