Canadian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Linda McRae is set to play the Bear’s Paw Cafe, July 28, 7:30 p.m. on her annual pilgrimage to Wells.
McRae earned two platinum and three gold records during her tenure as bassist/accordionist with former Canadian Celtic/Roots group Spirit of the West. She left the band to resume her solo career and has since released three critically-acclaimed recordings.
The Canadian musician holds nothing back in her performances. With honest, soaring vocals she nails a song to the wall.
The gifted singer, songwriter, musician, plays clawhammer banjo, acoustic guitar, accordion and porchboard bass combining old-time sounds with universal themes of heartbreak and redemption offering an intriguing sepia postcard from the past that is vibrant and alive in the present.
“Linda is not just a knockout musician,” Bear’s Paw owner Cheryl Macarthy said.
“She’s also an incredibly warm and friendly person. Although she lives with her partner in Tennessee for most of the year when she’s not touring, she still has a big spot in her heart for us.
“It’s a great feeling and it’s reciprocal.”
McRae’s performance at the Paw is part of a week of music sponsored by the Paw, Island Mountain Arts and the Sunset Theatre, which precedes the weekend musicfest, ArtsWells.
The Bear’s Paw, after 10 years of musical concerts, has just completed a brand new outdoor stage to compliment their outdoor seating.
“This stage has been two years in the planning and it’s going to be a great permanent asset for musicians who come to our town,” Paw co-owner Dave Jorgenson said.
“Having Linda McRae be its first performer is a great christening.
“There is not better person to give it the warm vibe it deserves to set it on its way to making people happy.”
The McRae concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is by donation.
