Wednesday’s Betty Supple and the Candlelight Cabaret event will do two things: expose the audience to an evening of performing art while raising money to help those in need after the devastating earthquake in Japan earlier this month.
The main act of the evening is Betty Supple — a folk, hip-hop and jazz artist from Ontario. This is what CBC Radio 3 has to say about Supple:
Her repertoire touches the genres of witty bluegrass, honest hip hop, cheeky folk, raspy jazz, truthful love songs and political anecdotes. She has an uncanny ability to read her audiences mixing her mood with the vibe of the crowd to make a good time for all. She’s been firin’ out tunes since it occurred to her to do so, and speaks her mind, heart and soul through her songs.
In between Supple’s sets there will be live and local dance performances, comedy, poetry and acts from the Amuse circus troup. Alex Perrelet, one of the event’s main organizers, said a big focus of the evening will be the atmosphere, hence the candles and cabaret-style acts.
“I want to showcase the hidden talents of Golden’s performing artists,” said Perrelet. “I really like the idea of creating an event that’s based on art and music, instead of around a bar or something like that.”
He continued by saying that he thinks the cabaret is going to have a really good vibe and hopes it’s an evening that will attract people from all corners of Golden.
Perrelet added that there will be a few “surprises” during the evening, and a prize for the person wearing the best hat.
Betty Supple and the Candlelight Cabaret will take place on Wednesday, March 23rd at 8pm at the Royal Canadian Legion. Tickets are $7 and all proceeds will go to Japanese earthquake relief.
