The Maple Ridge Concert Band is going to be playing in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, on Monday, April 24th at the Arts Centre Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
And the Dutch are going to get in on the celebration. A concert band called the Winkler Prins Harmonie, from Veendam, will be at the theatre to join with the Maple Ridge Concert band to create some big band sounds, in particular, a combined version of Robert Buckley’s Walking to the Sky.
Buckley himself will be conducting the song he wrote for big bands.
Maple Ridge Concert Band president Gale Yip said Maple Ridge is the first stop for the Dutch band which will visit three other western Canadian cities during its tour.
Tickets are available through the ACT.
The Maple Ridge Concert Band is still fundraising to acquire the $65,000 it needs to redo the copper roof on top of the 22-year-old gazebo and bandstand in Maple Ridge Memorial Peace Park. So far, only $14,000 has been raised for the project which entails cleaning the copper roof to restore its original shine then treating it so it turns turquoise blue.
