Billy Elliot set to ignite stage

The Kelowna Actors Studio's version of Billy Elliot opens tonight

The Kelowna Actors Studio brings the story of a young boy who trades his boxing gloves into dancing shoes to life with Billy Elliot.

The musical opens tonight and carries through until Sunday at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Performances also run from Wednesday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug. 5.

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 1 p.m.

In an unforgettable story set in a small mining town in the English countryside, a dance teacher finds a diamond in the rough when she discovers Billy—a young boy with a passion for dance who inspires the entire community.

The musical phenomenon is set to an explosive score by Elton John, celebrating Billy’s journey against the odds to make his dreams come true.

“Billy Elliot is an incredibly emotional journey of a struggling community, a shifting country and, most importantly, a father and son relationship,” said director Randy Leslie. “The magic of this show is that inside every one of us is a special talent waiting to come out. The trick is finding it and Billy comes out triumphantly.”

After an extensive search, Kelowna Actors Studio announced Billy will be played by Jonathan Fraser-Moore.

Tickets are $52 and can be purchased online.
