Have you ever imagined what might happen if a meteor touched down on Earth, bringing a new environment with it?
Even if you haven’t, Annihilation is going to make you wonder.
The movie follows four female scientists as they enter a “shimmer” that is rapidly expanding, swallowing up the landscape after a meteor has landed on the coast of the U.S. Aliens are suspected, but the army has no idea what is going on inside the visually wondrous shimmer. The army has sent men into the shimmer to discover the source, but they don’t have any answers.
The women go in, and something is instantly off. Everything under the dome of the shimmer is mutating, like radiation, except on a more biological DNA level. The scientists have to travel even further into harm’s way to reach the end and discover the source of the genetic mutations.
The whole movie is suspenseful, and an ongoing mystery as you try to figure out what exactly is going on. It will catch your attention mentally and visually. Throughout the whole movie, you don’t want to look away.
It is difficult to understand what is going on underneath the “shimmer” up until the end of the movie, and even still it might take a few minutes to piece it all together.
Annihilation will keep you talking about the movie, and it will surely be a recommendation you give to your friends. There are a few moments that might make you want to shut your eyes, or move closer to the screen to get a better look.
The movie is a cerebral trip, and it’s sure to keep you guessing. It is unpredictable, and isn’t easy to follow, but it isn’t meant to be. The whole point of the movie is to mess with your head, while feeding stunning visuals into your eyes.
Annihilation was right up my alley, so I’ll give it 10 out of 10 popcorns.
