Blue Circle Series returning to Sid Williams Theatre

The Sid Williams Theatre Society is looking ahead to another thrilling Blue Circle Series for the 2016 – 2017 performance season and is pleased to announce that Odlum Brown Limited has partnered with the theatre society as presenting sponsor of the Blue Circle Series.

For more than 93 years, Odlum Brown Limited has proudly supported many charitable initiatives and has a keen interest in the communities it serves. In the Comox Valley, Odlum Brown Limited is very proud to uphold the values and beliefs of its founders by embracing the spirit of philanthropy. As presenting sponsor of the Blue Circle Series for the 2016 – 2017 season, it provides a wonderful opportunity to carry on the vision and traditions that are at the heart of Odlum Brown’s culture.

“As vice-president and a director of Odlum Brown Limited, carrying on the longstanding conviction to support the communities where our employees and clients live and work is of utmost importance to me,” said Janine Martin, branch manager, Odlum Brown Courtenay. “I’m a long-time resident of the Comox Valley… this is my home and I feel very fortunate to have grown up in such a culturally rich community. I have children and grandchildren who live in the Valley, so I have a vested interest in the continuation of a thriving, healthy community.”

The Sid Williams Theatre Society’s general manager Deborah Renz notes that the series seeks to offer something for everyone, both in the type of shows offered and ticket pricing.

“We are particularly thrilled this year to be supported by Odlum Brown Limited as our presenting sponsor. Having strong sponsorship for every performance in the series enables us to achieve high artistic and technical standards for each production while keeping ticket prices within reach for our audiences.

“Revenues generated by the Blue Circle Series also offset rising operating costs in other areas. So sponsors like Odlum Brown Limited, and other Sid Williams Theatre Society sponsors, also help make it possible for us to offer discounted rental rates for the many non-profit groups who depend on the theatre, which is a key part of our mandate too.”

The 2016 – 2017 Blue Circle Series kicks off Sunday Sept. 18 with duct tape aficionado Red Green. He is back by popular demand after a sold out show in 2013; the brand new show titled I’m Not Old, I’m Ripe focuses on Red’s life with a few side trips.

Other shows to tickle the funny bone? Internationally acclaimed, fringe festival favourite God Is A Scottish Drag Queen starring comedian Mike Delamont (Oct.  8) and Bridget Ryan: Here’s to the Ladies Who Laugh (Feb. 10) – a perfect blend of all that is right in a show, part musical theatre, part stand-up comedy, and totally entertaining.

More traditional theatre shows with comedic flavour include Arts Club Theatre Company’s production of Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery (Nov. 20) and Story Theatre’s The Show Must Go On (March 18).

Perennial favourite the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26 with not one, but two separate lineups of the best films from the annual festival in Banff. The World Tour’s high-adrenaline partner, the Radical Reels Tour, follows on March 5.

The December favourite Winter Harp is on a touring hiatus this year, filling in this season award-winning musician David Myles and his acoustic band return to the Sid with a holiday show titled David Myles – It’s Christmas.

More musical highlights of the Blue Circle Series: Matthew Barber and Jill Barber present the Family Album (Oct.  24), The Piano Men Starring Jim Witter – a musical journey through the 1970s featuring the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John (Oct. 27), Leela Gilday (Jan. 27), Lion Bear Fox (Jan. 28), and Great Big Sea founding member Séan McCann with an intimate evening of songs and stories on Oct. 4.

For the classically inclined, the performances are quite diverse: Quartango’s Body & Soul featuring dancers Roxana and Fabian (Nov. 3), Canadian Guitar Quartet (Jan. 25), Joe Trio (Feb. 5), and baritone Brett Polegato with pianist Robert Kortgaard (March 29).

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations get started a few days early with Goitse (pronounced “Goy-cha”) on March 15 – a quintet hailing from Limerick, Ireland playing Irish music with a twist.

For the second straight year, a performance by Ballet Victoria will be the season finale. On March 31 the company will perform Midsummer Night’s Dream & New Canadian Works.

Let your culture curiosity run wild and come and see these fantastic shows!

Five pricing levels are available for each show in the Blue Circle Series: General public, member, student, groups of 10 or more, and SID TIX.

SID TIX pricing allows members to purchase a ticket to four or more different shows and receive a substantially discounted price on each show. Patrons familiar with subscription packages will recognize it as a build your own subscription.

Memberships are available for as little as $20 and include benefits such as ticket exchanges, discounts, and the chance to buy tickets before the general public.
