Blues music and Christmas cheer are merging to support the Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank at the Dinghy Dock Pub on Friday (Dec. 4).

The Nanaimo Blues Society, 91.7 Coast FM and the Dinghy Dock are partnering to present the fundraiser, A Blues Christmas Night. The event runs 7-10 p.m. at the Dinghy Dock.

“We came up with it at the radio station to help out,” said Chad Raill, on-air host and head of promotions for Coast FM. “It’s the first time we’ve done it to see how it goes here. We’ll try to get it bigger and better next year.”

Raill said at this time of year “it’s always a struggle” for Loaves and Fishes to provide for people in need.

Admission is by donation, with a suggested contribution of $10. All of the money raised goes to Loave and Fishes. People can also bring a non-perishable food item to get a free ride on the ferry over to the pub.

Performers include Larry and Virginia Blatchford, Brian Whitty, Whitey Sommers and James McRae and Hamish MacDonald.
