Long Beach Wild
Author: Adrienne Mason
Long Beach Wild is one of my favourite types of local books.
Author Adrienne Mason, having lived for a long time near Long Beach and the Pacific Rim National Park, weaves her first-hand knowledge and memories of the area with historical records about the people who cut a path through the salal to the ocean.
Using extensive research, including interviews with residents, Mason details how the area changed during the time of European settlement, which brought gold diggers and homesteaders to carve out a living in the rugged terrain.
Mason’s talent for writing conjures up images of the wet and wild west coast of the Island. People who’ve been to the extensive beaches and walked the rainforest trails will remember the smells and sounds from Mason’s vivid descriptions.
She captured the magic that is Long Beach, which will undoubtedly lure residents and visitors to its unpredictable shores.
