Everyone is welcome at the Campbell River Art Gallery Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m. for the opening of a new exhibition by renowned artist Derya Akay.
Akay’s exhibition is titled with bread, derived from the word “company,” inferring the breaking of bread. Akay will also look to an ancient style of mosaics as he presents a fascinating new installation composed of 3D printed sculptures, paintings, photographic prints, ceramic, glass, wax and organic objects.
The exhibition, with bread, is sponsored by Flooring Canada. The March 31 reception will include an artist talk with Akay at 6:30 p.m. The Campbell River Art Gallery also presents a new exhibition by local artist Catherine Martha Holmes in the Satellite Cases, located in the gallery lobby.
Holmes is creating daily Stone Portrait paintings – so the exhibition will grow as the days progress. Her work can be followed on Instagram at @catherinemarthaholmes and the exhibition will remain until May 17. Akay, who was born in Turkey but now lives in Vancouver, will have with bread on exhibition at the Campbell River Art Gallery until May 17.
There will be two curator tours of the exhibition, Saturdays, April 8 and May 6, at 1 p.m. Learn more about Akay’s artistic practice with curator Julia Prudhomme at these two free educational sessions.
The art gallery is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
