Burde Beans displays watercolours

Artist Sharelle Dawson features for the first time her watercolour and ink artwork at the Burde Street coffee shop.

Self-taught watercolour artist, Sharelle Dawson, has a wide variety of paintings and ink illustrations on display now through December, at Burde Beans Coffee and Things.

This is Dawson’s first time having her art on exhibit and she’s already sold seven paintings out of the 17 on display.

“I didn’t even think I was ready to do any kind of shows,” Dawson said. “Then stuff sold and I thought OK, I guess I can do this, this is pretty cool.”

Dawson, who grew up in Edmonton and moved to the Valley four years ago, said she dabbled with art, mostly charcoal and graphite work, when she was younger and only picked up watercolours just over a year ago.

“I hated watercolour… it’s really difficult, it’s uncontrollable and then last year I said I’m going to do this and I love it,” Dawson said. “I don’t even think I have [a style], I’m all over the place. That’s why the art is all over the place,” Dawson said.

A new artist is featured roughly every month at Burde Beans, on Burde Street.

Dawson plans to start up a website to feature her artwork in the near future.
