Going into its third season, the Chilliwack Children’s and Youth Choirs are putting out the call for new members.
Created in 2016, Paula DeWit says the choirs provide a musical opportunity for the community’s children, regardless of their skill level.
These musical groups “inspire young singers in Chilliwack,” said DeWit, who both manages and conducts the choirs. They also provide opportunities for “growth and development as musicians, performers, and members of our community.”
To deliver a full, rounded out sound, DeWit says each choir needs up to 20 members in it, and members will not only benefit from the group-orientated activity, but from the act of singing as well.
“Singers in this choir will learn the value of teamwork and will enjoy a profound sense of accomplishment,” said DeWit.
Choir members will also “be challenged with exciting and rewarding music … and expand their musical horizons (as) they’ll be introduced to music from around the world,” added the musical conductor.
Those interested in learning more or joining are urged to visit the choirs’ website at ChilliwackChildrensAndYouthChoir.ca to fill out a registration form. Tuition per term is $60, plus a $15 yearly non-refundable registration fee.
In addition to weekly practices, DeWit says the Choirs will also partake in several year-end concerts, and “will perform with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, and may be asked to perform at one or two other events over the course of the year.”
