The 15th annual Virgina Graczak Music Scholarship competitions were held last week at Trinity Presbyterian Church, hosted by the CR Friends of Music and both the voice and piano awards were won by Campbell River students.
The voice scholarship competition was won by Grade 11 Carihi student Hollis Matheson on Thursday evening and Julie Matsuzawa followed with a victory of her own on Sunday in the piano competition.
In celebration of the award’s 15th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the Friends of Music working within the community and Canada’s 15th birthday, scholarship founder Suzie Moscovich says they “wanted to try something new and see how it goes,” by opening the event up to the public this year.
Admission was by donation, with all proceeds going to Friends of Music to help them support music efforts within the Campbell River region.
