Aspiring musicians wanting to learn more about the art of drumming can get a few pointers during upcoming drumming camps.
Harbour City Music is offering three camps this July to help people hone their skills. The business offers beginner camps Saturday (July 8) to July 12 and July 29-August 2, 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $250 per week.
Intermediate camps are Saturday (July 8) to July 12 and July 29 to August 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This camp is for drummers who have played for at least a year and people will learn more advanced grooves, styles and techniques. The cost is $350 per week.
The advanced drumming camp is July 15-19 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The camp is designed for students who have about two to five years of drumming experience. Participants must be able to read music. On day one students will learn hip hop, funk and R&B with Ydna Murd and Phil Wipper. Day two is jazz, swing and blues with Paul Carpenter and Hans Verehoven. Day three students will learn rock, punk and heavy metal with Spencer Bowman and Michael Harrison. Day four includes instruction on hand percussion and world drumming with Murray Creed and Mike Micahlkow and day five is playing live and working with sound technicians with Steve Adamson and Mike Harrison.
