Organizers are urging locals and visitors alike to join them Sunday, July 7 at the Coombs Fairgrounds, for an old-style Box Social.
They are suggesting you come celebrate 100 years of the Coombs Fair and help them build the Centennial Music Stage.
In the Box Social tradition, friends, spouses or sweethearts vie against other bidders to win the company of the donor and their specially prepared Box Dinner. Watch for Celebrity Guest announcements.
Attend the Box Social, and bring along a prepared picnic dinner (all cold foods with ice pack) for two to share. The winning bidder will share that meal with you (donor will take home basket, dishes, decor, etc.). Or come as a guest, and bid generously on a Box Dinner to share with the donor.
The fun will kick off at 4 p.m., with Kumbana Marimba band playing energetic music great for dancing. Games for children will also be available.
Box Dinners will be auctioned off from 5-6 p.m. For those who aren’t lucky enough to buy a Box Dinner, the concession will be open, offering sandwiches, veggie snacks and fruit. Anyone with children or special dietary needs are invited to bring their own picnic meals.
Square dance demonstrations will follow, with more opportunity to get up and shake a leg! This will be followed by the feature act for the evening, the local jug band sensation, Jugmental, with more toe-tapping music.
Box dinner donations must arrive by 4:30 p.m. for viewing prior to the auction. Goods and service items will also be included in the auction. Event parking will be available in the upper field, access off Burgoyne Road. This is a family friendly, no smoking, no alcohol event. Other than certified assistance dogs, no dogs will be permitted on site.
All proceeds from this event will support the construction of the Coombs Fair Centennial Project, the new custom-built log music stage. For more information, contact event coordinator, Debbie Adkins at 250-248-8724 or visit www.coombsfair.com
