Canada 150 celebrations this weekend got off to a start Friday afternoon in Sidney’s Beacon Park.
After a community Picnic in the Park, hosted by Thrifty Foods, the Town of Sidney pulled out all the stops with entertainment, a short parade, the singing of O Canada, a citizenship re-affirmation ceremony and more.
It’s the official beginning of a weekend of fun to mark Canada Day 2017 — Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation — as well as Sidney’s 50th anniversary as a Town.
Fireworks are set to go off this evening after 10 p.m. on the waterfront.
Tomorrow, July 1, the Peninsula Celebrations Society jumps in with its 33rd annual Sidney Days events – starting with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Mary Winspear Centre and the big parade along Beacon Avenue, starting at 11:30 a.m.
After that, there’s a whole day of family-friendly events planned, and Sidney is welcoming guests from all over the region.
