Candy and chocolate fill Malaspina theatre

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory runs on Saturday and Sunday (May 9-10) at Malaspina Theatre.

When a young and extremely poor British boy named Charlie Bucket finds a golden ticket inside a bar of chocolate, his entire world changes in the most fascinating of ways.

That’s the basis of Headliners Productions’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which runs on Saturday and Sunday (May 9-10) at Malaspina Theatre.

Headliners program director Manda Chelmak says Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the ideal production.

“It’s really bright and colourful and that is what Headliners is about,” Chelmak said.

The production stars 30 young actors such as Bronwyn McCormick, who plays Willy Wonka, and Teagan Thomson, who plays Charlie Bucket.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was originally written and released in 1964 as a children’s book by Roald Dahl.

The story focuses on Bucket and four other children and their journey through Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, which sees them encounter everything from Oompa Loompas to a chocolate river.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory runs on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children five and under are free.
