Captivating and sensually charged Canadian trio to play Nov. 15

Marc Atkinson plays this Saturday night at Errington Hall

Marc Atkinson, award-winning Canadian guitarist and co-founder of the folk pop band The Bills, is visiting the Errington hall for the second time on Saturday night. This time, however, he’s coming as the Marc Atkinson Trio.

“I played at the Errington Hall just over a year ago with my friend Kit Eakle on jazz violin and I enjoyed the hall so much that I wanted to be sure to bring my trio back,” Atkinson said from his Hornby Island home.

The Marc Atkinson Trio — which also features Joey Smith on base and Brett Martens on rhythm guitar — has toured North America, England and Europe since forming in 2000. They have played at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Vancouver International Folk Festival and the DjangoFest Northwest, receiving standing ovations everywhere.

The music of this group has been described as melodic, captivating and sensually charged. Their second album, The Marc Atkinson Trio II, was voted one of the top five albums in North America by Acoustic Guitar Magazine, while their third album (The Marc Atkinson Trio III) was nominated for an Outstanding Album Award at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

At the Nov. 15 Errington Hall concert, the Trio will play original acoustic music with flavours of Django Reinjardt, Duke Ellington, Chopin, bluegrass, ragtime and more.

Adult tickets are $20 and are available now at Cranky Dog, Heaven on Earth and the Errington Store. They will also be available at the door. Youth tickets for children 12 and under are $5 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be available at the concert.
