Carlin School hosts annual fundraising event

Family-friendly Carlin Country Market rolls out Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Carlin Elementary Middle School is ready to roll out the second annual, family-friendly Carlin Country Market Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Carlin Country Market is a team effort between parents, students and staff, bringing the school and the community closer together – this is a place where the whole community meets.

Funds raised from the first Carlin Country Market supported several initiatives at Carlin School, such as outdoor learning programs, winter recreation, teacher appreciation, equipment purchases, the Young Naturalists club, soccer club, musical performances, books for the library and much more.

The Carlin Country Market is free and members of the public are welcome. Garage- salers can comb through treasures and shoppers can browse the open-air market featuring local artisans, crafters, and small businesses. Dads can catch the show and shine, while kids bounce to their hearts delight in the carnival area. Face painting, games, ice cream, mini doughnuts and cotton candy are sure to top off the day.

Chainsaw carving and jaws of life demonstrations will attract the curious. A silent auction featuring many area businesses is full of good deals. DeMille’s, the Candy Vault, Mackenzie Camp and more than 40 other vendors will join the market. Community groups such as Shuswap Tourism, Sorrento 100, the Shuswap Trail Alliance, and the CSRD Recycling Program will be on hand to share maps and information.

Don’t miss the Carlin garden area, where students have been tending raised beds and are learning about composting and how their food grows. Come by the plant sale to purchase your tomatoes and peppers, or grab a few new perennials for your yard. There is also a bake sale, book sale and an entertainment stage running all day. Admission is free, food is plentiful, entertainment abounds, and there are several chances to win. Each class is donating a themed basket to be raffled off at the market.
