Castlegar musician Ty Wright is about to release his first full-length album.
Fill Your Pockets with Caviar, We’re Leaving features 12 of Wright’s original songs.
Wright is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and actor who has played in multiple bands and performed in local theatre productions such as Rossland’s Gold Fever Follies (2013-17), Chicago (2014) and Rock of Ages (2017) by Black Productions. Wright, 29, is originally from Fruitvale, but now makes Castlegar his home.
The album has been a long time in the making with the songs being recorded over the last six years.
Wright says the songs cover a variety of genres from easy listening to metal and alternative rock.
The topics are also quite varied from personal tragedy and dogs to dancing and the song writing process itself.
“As its name implies, the album wasn’t taken entirely seriously, and features plenty of tidbits of humor scattered about,” says Wright. “It’s an eclectic mix of tunes, so there’s bound to be a song for everyone.”
Wright says the title is a “blatantly subtle nod to income inequality, and my personal views on extravagance and privilege.”
“For instance, if you’ve ever been to a fancy party (one that is so expensive and swanky that you’d never be able to throw a party like it yourself) and you get fed up with the people throwing the party, there’s nothing quite like filling your pockets with the most symbolically luxurious foods they have and going home.”
Wright says he couldn’t have done the project without the help of his drummer and producer Brennan Whyte and a small crew of friends. With their assistance, Wright recorded the songs in a homemade recording studio.
Wright pushed his music aspirations to the side for the last few years as he pursued a career as a registered nurse. But he once again has some time to dedicate to his music and the album release.
You can find the album after Aug. 20 on music downloading and streaming services, including iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.
