The Comox Valley Art Gallery celebrates the holidays in style.
CVAG is gearing up for its 44th Winter Art Market (Nov. 23 to Dec. 26), and is joining Courtenay’s Moonlight and Magic Festivities (Nov. 23). The Gallery will host a series of community interactive Make Art Projects (Saturdays – Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22).
“We are thrilled to once again open our doors this holiday season to a festive hot-bed of local making,” said director Sharon Karsten. “Whether you are keen to buy gifts, make one-of-a-kind objects, or interact with local established artists, there is something here for everyone”.
The Winter Art Market (formerly called Christmas Craft Fair) launch celebration takes place on Dec. 1, with a Make Art Project (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), celebration cake and hot drinks (12 to 2 p.m.). The market features hand-made art and artful things by over 50 local makers.
Community Make-Art Project themes include:
Dec. 1: Honouring the Light – lantern making and artful transparencies.
Dec. 8: Digital Dress Up – staged portraits with costumes and props = take home digital image and prints.
Dec. 15: The Gold Build – join us to imagine and create space and place using an enormous amount of gold stuff.
Dec 22: Printed Matter: Cards and Handmade Books – create, collage, print and gift your art.
Those itching to get a sneak look of the market and hang out with local artists are invited to come out to Moonlight and Magic festivities at CVAG on Nov. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. This event celebrates the artwork of Cheryl Jacobs (silversmith/jeweller), Dale Rouleau (fine woodworker) and Alan Burgess (ceramicist).
Geek out with Julian Rendell (director of the Comox Valley Makerspace) on sensors and projection technologies. Make your own art-buttons to wear for the holidays or give away to friends.
