The Rotary Centre for the Arts will host its first ever building-wide exhibition celebrating First Nations Arts & Culture, featuring First Nation artists who currently reside in the Okanagan.
Though they are indigenous to the Okanagan these artists are brought together by their commitment to their own cultural heritage and their excellence as visual artists.
The exhibition will run from Sept. 2 to 30 and will be free to the public between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
The artists represented in the show are:
Dr. Michelle Jack, Okanagan from the communities of (Sn Pint’ktn) in Penticton and Omak, WA.
Sheldon Louis, a member of the Syilx Nation
Barb Dawson, Taku River Tinglit from the Yukon
Cori Derickson, Suqinakin-Syilx
Dennis J. Weber, Metis from Saskatchewan
Louise Lambert, European and Algonquin decent
Tyrone Whitehawk, Cote First Nations from Saskatchewan
Csetkwe Fortier, Syilx (Okanagan) and Scewepmec (Shuswap) Nations, and
An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a special performance by Cori Derickson.
